Sources of Strength is a peer-led suicide prevention program that uses social network theory to highlight the power of teen voices to create positive changes in social norms. Sources of Strength also trains adult mentors within the school and provides ongoing support for adults to facilitate peer leader meetings and safe messaging campaigns. When schools implement Sources of Strength in partnership with the University of Rochester they receive yearly reports to evaluate prevention activities and accomplishments. Schools are invited to bring a planning team - which may include a school psychologist, school administrator, and other school staff. The workshop will provide the opportunity for participants to get hands on experience with the Sources of Strength model, including activities to build strengths and connections. The University of Rochester team will meet with each school planning team to discuss how the Sources of Strength program may meet current school needs in the area of suicide prevention and overall wellness, details about the implementation process, and success stories from other schools in New York State. Participants will receive information, resources, and support from the University of Rochester team to start implementation in their schools.
